The Missing Link

Bill Brown has taken a bold step in the IT management world. Bill, who is the current CIO at Iron Mountain has carved out a newly created position as the SVP Global Compliance Process. While the traditional approach is to put someone in charge of overall audit and legal compliance, Bill has smartly created a bridge position between the business need for compliance and the IT operational delivery of the same. I believe this is the beginning of the next phase of compliance management in the corporate world. Bill espouses many of the principles in this SearchCompliance interview that Akibia has incorporated in its AssuredCompliance offering. The most important being the need to distill the management of multiple regulations into a harmonized cross-compliance process.

In the interview, Brown states, “Gartner calls it a "weather bureau for compliance." I think there will be a large role we can play in designing for the future state of compliance as opposed to responding to what the requirements are presently.”

This proactive approach to holistic compliance management is what every company should work towards – leveraging people, in new roles like Bill’s, processes to direct the flow of compliance information and assurance across the organization and technology to automate and streamline cross-compliance.

We all know that compliance isn't getting any easier and Bill has made a cutting edge step to address compliance in a new way.

Robert is the Vice President of Technology at Akibia
