Course Goal
The Entry Level Server Maintenance is a 4–day technical training course, which introduces students to Hardware and System Maintenance for the Hewlett–Packard line of entry level computers– –notably, thezx1 and zx2 architecture based servers. The ultimate goal of this course is to allow you
– –with confidence– –to work with and administer HP’s line of Entry Level servers.
Audience
This course is meant for individuals responsible for performing any system administration tasks or hardware maintenance tasks on a HP 9000 and Integrity processor–based servers. This includes both System Administrators and Field Support/Hardware Maintenance personnel.
Training Methodology
This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self–learning. Students will meet the learning objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands–on lab exercises, self–guided research, and scenario–based troubleshooting.
Course Scope
The course includes the following products:
- HP 9000 rp3400 and 4400 Series
- HP ZX1 Integrity rx2600, rx2620, and rx4640
- HP ZX2 Integrity rx2660, rx3600, and rx6600
Course Objectives
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Recognize HP Entry Level Server models.
- Work with the Management Processor (MP)
- Be familiar with the boot-up process
- Work with the Processor Dependent Code (PDC) and boot level menus
- Work with the Boot Console Handler (BCH) commands and Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI)
- Understand device pathing.
- Manage system firmware.
- Use the Support Tools manager
- Interpret LEDs and perform basic troubleshooting
- Remove and replace Field Replaceable Units (FRUs)
Course Prerequisites
- Experience maintaining computer hardware
- Experience with the UNIX operating system, e.g. HP–UX or Solaris
Class size is limited to six students.
