Course Goal
Our Solaris 10 Administration and Troubleshooting Course teaches students how to perform common, routine Solaris administration tasks so that they can be productive on the day they return from class. Topic selection and focus is based on providing immediate, practical, useable Solaris administration knowledge.
Audience
This course is intended for students with a basic knowledge of UNIX as a user, but no System Administration knowledge or experience.
Training Methodology
This course uses active learning to involve students in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the course objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

The course includes use of the following products:
- Solaris 10 Update 2
- UltraSPARC PCI Workstations
- Disk and CD-ROM Drives
- Printers
Course Content
Major areas covered include:
- System Installation
- Package Installation
- Patching
- Disk preparation
- File system creation and management
- Adding Users
- Configuring the network
- Introduction to naming services
- Printer configuration
- NFS configuration, client and server
Upon completion, students should be able to perform routine system administration tasks with little assistance, and be capable of assisting with more complex tasks with supervision.
Course Prerequisites
Familiarity with at least vi and tar, as well as basic UNIX usage and terminology.
Class size is limited to 8 students.
