Course Goal
Akibia’s Sun Fire V-Series Server Maintenance Course will prepare students to administer, configure, and maintain Sun Microsystems’ Sun Fire V215, V245 and V445 servers.

Audience
This course is intended for Field Service and Support personnel.

Training Methodology
This course uses active learning techniques to involve students in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the course goals through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

Course Scope
The course includes use of the following products:

  • Solaris 10 Basics
  • Sun Fire V215, V245 and V445

Course Content

  • Upon completion, students should be able to:
  • Understand the differences between each of the V-Series Servers
  • Identify hardware components by location and system naming convention
  • Configure and administer the V-Series Servers features such as ALOM and H/W Raid
  • Easily maneuver between the operating system and system controller
  • Use GUI and command line commands to obtain system status and configuration information
  • Locate and interpret error logs within the servers
  • Isolate system hardware faults to the FRU using LED's, command line commands and diagnostic tools
  • Research component part numbers and replace faulty FRU's
  • Perform system firmware Updates

Course Prerequisites
Fundamental knowledge of computer hardware/software components and experience troubleshooting computer systems is required. An understanding of the Open Boot Prom, UNIX shells, file system navigation, and the Solaris boot process is also beneficial. These prerequisites can be met by attending Akibia's Field Engineer Fundamentals for Sun Systems Course.

Class size is limited to 4 students.
