Course Goal

Akibia's Linux Performance Tuning and High Availability course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to monitor system performance, secure the base OS, and install and configure Red Hat and Veritas cluster services.

Audience

This course is designed for IT professionals who need to gain the advanced skills necessary to administer a clustered Enterprise Linux system.

Training Methodology

This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the course objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

Course Objective

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of profiling servers to determine optimization strategies
  • Understand the general operating system installation and configuration guidelines that relate to performance tuning
  • Identify the four key hardware resources that relate to a system's performance and understand how operating systems interact with these resources.
  • Install Linux to an optimized baseline
  • Monitor performance using native OS tools
  • Apply advanced security lock down procedures to the base OS
  • Install and remove Red Hat Enterprise Linux Cluster services
  • Install and remove Veritas Cluster services

Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should be able to:

  • Akibia's Red Hat I and Red Hat II courses
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts
  • Previous experience deploying and administering RHEL at the enterprise level
  • Effective group discussion skills
