Course Goal

Akibia's Red Hat Enterprise Linux I course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure and perform basic administration tasks in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server environment. Successful completion of this course will also prepare students to take the RHCT exam.

Audience

This course is designed for IT professionals who need to gain the foundational skills necessary to install and administer an Enterprise Linux system or pursue the RHCT certification.

Training Methodology

This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the course objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the role of Linux in a computing environment
  • Install and configure Red Hat Linux manually and using the kickstart tool
  • Perform administration tasks through the Red Hat Linux shell interface
  • Modify system processes though the Red Hat Linux shell interface
  • Access and use the on-line documentation
  • Use available Linux commands or GUI to manage/traverse the Linux file system
  • Configure, maintain and monitor system processes and logs files
  • Bring up and shut down a Linux system, understanding the processes involved and the use of "run levels"
  • Manage network, routing, and SNMP configuration files
  • Configure server for NIS, NFS, DNS, and DHCP client services
  • Create, manage, and backup the Red Hat Linux file system and disks on a local machine
  • Add, modify, and delete users and groups on a Red Hat Linux system
  • Add, modify, and delete directory and file permissions
  • Create system jobs using AT and CRON
  • Monitor system performance
  • Create and compile a custom Linux kernel
  • Remotely mount NIS users home directory
