Course Goal

Our Sun StorEdge 3000 Series Disk Array Course will prepare students to trouble shoot and maintain the Sun StorEdge 3310 and 3510 Disk Arrays. This class can be delivered instructor-led at Akibia’s facility or remotely. In this course, students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to identify and understand various array configurations, set up and use both the menu driven and command line maintenance interfaces (in-band and out-of-band). Special attention is given to critical maintenance procedures such as controller replacements and disk replacement strategies for RAID 0 , 1, & 5 implementations.

This course is intended for field service and support personnel.

This course uses active learning to involve the students in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the course objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

Course Prerequisites

Akibia's UNIX Fundamentals Course, or equivalent experience in the UNIX environment is desirable. Knowledge of computer hardware/software components and experience troubleshooting computer systems is required.

Course Content

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Identify all major array components.
  • Understand common array configurations and why this is important in determining parts replacement strategies.
  • Establish and utilize an out-of-band session with the menu driven maintenance interface over a serial connection as well as over an IP connection.
  • Establish and utilize the command line maintenance interface in-band over the host channel as well as out-of-band over an IP connection.
  • Perform and interpret data collections for the purpose of diagnosing and maintaining the array.
  • Perform controller replacements while preserving array configuration settings and data on disk.
  • Perform array firmware upgrades and downgrades.
  • Perform manual and automated disk drive replacements.
  • Restore lost or corrupted configuration settings.

Course Length

The Sun StorEdge 3000 Series Disk Array Course is a 1 day instructor-led class delivered at Akibia’s facility or via a web-based instructor-led remote course. The class begins at 9AM EST and ends at 5PM EST. There will be a break for lunch.
