Course Goal
This course teaches key HPUX and HP9000 System Administration knowledge and skills, with the goal of providing competent administrators for HP9000 systems. The HP9000 Desktop, Server & V-Class Maintenance portion is approximately 6 days and will prepare students to operate and maintain the HP9000 desktops, servers and V-Class Server.
Audience
The HP9000 System Administration/HP9000 Desktop and Server Maintenance/ HP V-Class Server Maintenance Course is intended for the individual who is responsible for performing any system administration tasks on an HP9000 system and is intended for Field Service and Support personnel.
Training Methodology
This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the learning objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises and self-guided research.

Course Objectives
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Explain the duties and tasks of system administration
- Change HP9000 boot parameters
- Install HPUX
- Describe the HPUX startup process and list important HPUX directories
- Configure device files and disks
- Create and maintain an HPUX file system
- Manage swap space
- Reconfigure the HPUX kernel
- Create and manager user accounts
- Customize user accounts and edit initialization files
- Change security settings
- Control processes
- Schedule CRON jobs
- Install additional software and patches

- Configure print services and print documents
- Identify HP9000 desktop and server models
- Describe the key features of the HP9000 systems
- Identify, remove/replace system components
- Interpret power-on sequence and identify errors
- Use GUI and command line commands to obtain system status and configuration information
- Isolate system hardware faults to the FRU using LED's, command line commands and diagnostic tools
- Research component part numbers and replace faulty FRU's
- Identify HP V-Class models
- Describe key features of the HP V-Class Server
- Identify, remove/replace server components
- Interpret power-on sequence and identify errors
- Use GUI and command line commands to obtain server status and configuration information
Course Prerequisites
Fundamental knowledge of computer hardware/software components and operating a computer through a Command Line Interface and/or Graphical User Interface is required. Previous experience in UNIX environments is desired. In addition, experience troubleshooting computer systems is required.
