Course Goal

The rp7410/rp8400 Hardware Maintenance is a 2-day technical training course, which introduces students to Hardware and System Maintenance for the Hewlett-Packard HP9000 cell-based architecture computers---notably, the rp7410 and rp8400 series of computers. The ultimate goal of this course is to allow you---with confidence---to work with and administer HP's line of Superdome-technology computers, to which the 74xx and 84xx computers belong.

Audience

This course is meant for individuals responsible for performing any system administration tasks or hardware maintenance tasks on a HP9000 rp7410 or rp8400 Cell based system. This includes both System Administrators and Field Support/Hardware Maintenance personnel.

Training Methodology

This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the learning objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

  • HP rp7410
  • HP rp8400
  • Additional HP systems are discussed briefly.

Course Objectives

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Recognize rp7410 and rp8400 systems
  • Be familiar with the system features and benefits
  • Be familiar with the boot-up process
  • Work with the Processor Dependent Code (PDC) and boot level menus
  • Work with the Management Processor (MP) and Boot Console Handler (BCH) commands
  • Work with cell boards
  • Perform basic node partitioning tasks
  • Install HP-UX onto a cell board
  • Use the Support Tools manager
  • Interpret LEDs
  • Perform basic troubleshooting
  • Remove and replace Field Replaceable Units (FRUs)

Course Prerequisites

  • Experience maintaining computer hardware
  • Experience with the UNIX operating system, e.g. HP-UX or Solaris
  • Akibia's HP9000 Hardware Maintenance course, or equivalent experience

Course Length

rp7410/rp8400 Hardware Maintenance is 2 days. Class size is limited to 10 students.
