Course Goal

The Superdome Hardware Maintenance is a 5-day technical training course, which introduces students to Hardware and System Maintenance for the Hewlett-Packard HP9000 Superdome computers. The ultimate goal of this course is to allow you---with confidence---to work with and administer HP's Superdome computers.

Audience

This course is meant for individuals responsible for performing any system administration tasks or hardware maintenance tasks on a PA-RISC Superdome system. This includes both System Administrators and Field Support/Hardware Maintenance personnel.

Training Methodology

This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the learning objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

Course Scope

The course includes the following products:

  • HP PA-RISC Superdome
  • Additional HP systems are discussed briefly

Course Objectives

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Recognize a Superdome system
  • Recognize the HP-UX SMS (Support Management System)
  • Be familiar with the system features and benefits
  • Be familiar with the boot-up process
  • Work with the Processor Dependent Code (PDC) and boot level menus
  • Work with the Management Processor (MP) and Boot Console Handler (BCH) commands
  • Work with cell boards
  • Perform basic node partitioning tasks
  • Work with the attached HP Support Management Station
  • Back up the SMS
  • Use the Support Tools manager
  • Interpret LEDs
  • Perform basic troubleshooting
  • Run diagnostics
  • Remove and replace Field Replaceable Units (FRUs)

Course Prerequisites

  • Experience maintaining computer hardware
  • Experience with the UNIX operating system, e.g. HP-UX or Solaris
  • Akibia's HP9000 Hardware Maintenance course, or equivalent experience.
  • Recommended: Akibia's HP Cell-based Architecture course or equivalent experience

Superdome Hardware Maintenance is 5 days. Class size is limited to 4 students.
